Another good tip is to start a mini-meditation practice. For 5 minutes everyday, after your morning coffee, sit still BEFORE YOU GO TO THE COMPUTER and watch your breath go in and out. If you start thinking just say "thinking" to youself and go back to the beath. After 5 minutes go check your email and do some tweets. If you feel that expanding beyond the 5 minutes, that's cool, just go slowly.

Agreed. I usually check email only once on Sundays. You just have to get used to doing it and not worry that you are missing something. It can be very easy to lose hours of "you" time on a day off because you get 1 email that get you rolling on some project or problem.

I've attempted a variation on #3 - Set aside a "No E-mail" day, only I decided to try complete blackout. That's right. I chose to not even turn-on the computer. All day. No computer. Difficult, but not impossible. Great for when you need to unwind, destress, read a book, relax, listen to some music.

I chose Sunday's, a natural, "day of rest" that worked for me. I've only done it a few times so far, but it really does help you realize there's more to life than just what's online.

And now that it's cold enough here in Florida, we've enjoyed some fire in a fire pit on the back patio. Reminds you of what else is out there. Great stuff. I recommend to anyone. The fire and the tech sabbath, that is.

(Note to self: start a social media addict recovery center and make billions. Whoops, I wrote that for the whole world to see it! Haha, oh, well. I'll still make billions, someone always forgets. Hehe.)

I say as long as you sleep 6-8hrs a day w/o using social media - then you are by no means "addicted!" - Jokes aside - I have heard that your bedroom is supposed to be devoid of all electronic devices; at most only an alarm clock should be in your bedroom - because as they said, you're brain is made active by the information streams you have in your room before your sleep.
