Video: What if You Business Plan Isn’t Working? Change It!

by / ⠀Entrepreneurship / November 8, 2013

American Express Open Forum recently launched a video series interviewing successful business owners called “Inside Successful Small Business”. As part of this series they talked with Angela Jia Kim, founder of Savor Spa. Specifically they talked with Angela about realizing a failure and how to tackle that failure to turn it into something great.

Key: No matter how great you think your business plan is you will often be faced with the decision to change something. When you recognize a failure and tackle it head on great things can come of it.

Angela started experimenting with making creams and lotions after she realized how many chemicals were in the products she was using. After starting to sell her “potions” to friends she realized she had accidentally become an entrepreneur.

She started out in the New York City area of Chelsea but wanted to move into the wealthy West Village. She thought it was a great move to be in the new neighborhood but quickly realized the neighborhood had very little foot traffic. After trying not to panic about their move she realized the people stopping into the store were asking for facials. Being a savvy entrepreneur ANgela quickly started saying that they do facials.

After that Angela hired some of the best people in New York and began offer a full line of services. Not only did the store become a destination but the services actually helped her sell more of her lotions as they were able to recommend her products to customers.

It showed Angela that you have to deal with failures head on and if you keep at it something magical can come out of it.
