Why should you win the Under30CEO March Madness Entrepreneur Mashup?

I started Zapier in October 2011 with Bryan and Mike. For six months we bootstrapped a tech startup from nothing to a thousand paying customers in Columbia, Missouri.

We then earned funding from Y Combinator, moved to the valley and have grown the company from those thousand customers to being used by tends of thousands of people and businesses across the world. We also attracted a $1.3 million from some of the best investors in the world to help grow the company.

Better yet, Zapier solves a real problem and lets users automate the most tedious parts of their day.

Who are your co-founders and what are they like?

Bryan Helmig – I met Bryan playing jazz music in Columbia, MO. He’s a great bass and guitar player. Playing music we both learned of a shared interest in tech, in particular SaaS products. Bryan’s a self taught programmer and even better entrepreneur.

Mike Knoop – Mike is also a great self-taught programmer and entrepreneur. He got his start programming those fun calculator games for the TI-83 that you and your friends were passing around in middle school.

Tell us about your company!

Zapier is the easiest way to connect web applications to automate tedious parts of your business. You can easily save new PayPal customers to Salesforce, create MailChimp subscribers from Eventbrite signups, post blog updates to Facebook automatically, or any of thousands of other integrations utilizing 180 of the best web applications on the market.

Zapier lets you easily create integrations between the web applications you are using without the expense of costly web developers or unreliable interns.

Who do you pick to win the NCAA tournament?

Mizzou.

If you could be one college mascot, who would you be and why?

Truman the Tiger. I was born in Jefferson City, Missouri and went to school in Columbia at the University of Missouri. Even when the Tigers haven’t been great at football or basketball I still bleed black and gold.
