How Small Businesses Can Get Help Landing Government Contracts

sba logoMany small business owners don’t know about the various programs and opportunities provided by the SBA. Today, a video on MSN’s Business on Main covered one of these programs called the SBA 8(a) Small Business Development Program. The video highlights a 5-year-old construction firm in Phoenix, Arizona, that just landed an $80 million government contract.

The government contract was landed because of the firms involvement with the SBA 8(a) program. The program focuses on providing assistance for small disadvantaged businesses especially with government contracts. This can be crucial for businesses who are approved to participate and is even more important when the economy is struggling.

The focus of the program is to provide business development support including:

  • Mentoring
  • Procurement assistance
  • Business counseling
  • Training
  • Financial assistance
  • Surety bonding
  • Other management and technical assistance

The company and owner who landed the $80 million government contract through the program is not a young ceo but the program does not have age restrictions.
