Warren Buffett has denied recent social media rumors that he praised President Donald Trump’s economic policies. The claims, which were shared by Trump on Truth Social, stated that Buffett said Trump was “making the best economic moves he’s seen in 50 years.”
Berkshire Hathaway, Buffett’s company, issued a statement clarifying that Buffett has not made any recent comments about the economy or Trump’s policies. The statement reads: “There are reports currently circulating on social media regarding comments allegedly made by Warren E. Buffett.
All such reports are false.”
The misleading video shared by the president displayed a voiceover saying, “Trump is purposely crashing the stock market by 20% this month, but he’s doing it on purpose. And this is why Warren Buffett just said Trump is making the best economic moves he’s seen in over 50 years.” However, these statements are not based on any authentic comments made by Buffett.
Buffett refutes false economic claims
CNBC reporter Becky Quick confirmed that Buffett has not spoken about the economy or market conditions recently. She mentioned that Buffett intends to discuss his views only at Berkshire Hathaway’s annual meeting later this spring. While Buffett hasn’t specifically addressed the recent imposition of sweeping tariffs by the Trump administration, he has previously expressed negative views on tariffs.
In March, he called tariffs “a tax on goods” and warned that trade conflicts could cause negative consequences globally. Buffett stated that he won’t make any commentary related to the markets, the economy, or tariffs between now and Berkshire Hathaway’s annual meeting on May 3. The company’s statement and Buffett’s silence on the matter confirm that any quotes circulating that attribute praise from Buffett to Trump’s economic strategies are not genuine.
