"Smartphone Invite System"

Sony recently disclosed the soon-to-be-added feature to the PlayStation 5’s lineup — an innovative ability to send multiplayer game invites via smartphone applications. With this feature, the need to add other players to your friend list disappears. Instead, users can share a unique link that allows anyone to join the game, making the multiplayer gaming scene more straightforward and efficient.

This invite functionality aims to build and strengthen PlayStation communities, introducing a simplified and inclusive way to invite new gamers to the multiplayer experience. It also streamlines team formation for competitive play, fosters unity among PlayStation users, and lessens the margin for error when recruiting teammates, all to enhance user interaction.

Furthermore, this feature creates a shareable link and a unique QR code. However, the application is engineered solely for PlayStation 5 games and is expected to go live later in the year.

Introducing smartphone-based invites for PS5 multiplayer

Some games might necessitate an update to use the service fully.

It’s significant to mention that most multiplayer games on PlayStation 5 require the PlayStation Plus membership, which saw a price escalation last year. Despite the additional expense, it presents numerous benefits, like two free monthly game downloads, exclusive PlayStation Store discounts, and cloud storage for game progress. However, benefits can vary depending on the country and game title.

Sony plans to enhance the multiplayer gaming experience even further by creating a live widget for multiplayer invitations, particularly for Discord users. This widget, unique to PS5, will display the real-time status of a multiplayer session when the shared link is active, preventing players from entering inactive lobbies.

In its continuous efforts to improve, Sony is developing a tool that allows users to share their PlayStation Network profile across different messaging or social apps. This tool, to be tentatively released later this year, will employ a link generated through the PlayStation application, further expanding the PlayStation 5’s functionalities.
