President Joe Biden spoke with reporters early Tuesday morning upon returning from a trip to Texas.

He announced that he and Vice President Kamala Harris are discussing her choice of running mate, with a decision expected in the coming days. When asked about his legacy, Biden expressed his desire to be remembered as the president who “cured the economy” despite the current challenges of rising inflation and increasing interest rates.

Biden’s endorsement of Harris as his successor came amid concerns from some Democrats about his mental acuity at the age of 81. However, he reaffirmed his support for her during a speech at the LBJ Presidential Library in Austin. Speculation about Harris’ potential running mates includes Arizona Sen.

Mark Kelly, Pennsylvania Gov. Josh Shapiro, Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg, and Minnesota Gov.

The vice presidential pick is expected to be confirmed by Democratic delegates in a virtual roll call vote before the August 7 Ohio ballot-access deadline. Meanwhile, former President Donald Trump, the 78-year-old Republican nominee, recently selected Ohio Sen. JD Vance as his running mate.

Trump’s campaign plans to focus on Biden’s economic record and Harris’ handling of the surge in illegal immigration.
