Mike began his career working at an environmental firm, where he obtained the building blocks that would become the foundation for his pursuit of municipal law later on. Here, he learned how rewarding it was to protect the planet and prevent environmental hazards. However, his responsibilities and obligations outside of work made him long for more freedom. “Leaving my job was a leap of faith. I had to take care of my family, and I had no savings and no network of clients. When I remembered God’s calling when starting my career, I just became certain that I had to do what He asked me to do. I never looked back ever since,” Mike recalls.
An acquaintance asked Mike to partner with him six months into being an independent practitioner. Since then, he has become an advocate for proper local governance. Shortly after they established the company, Mike’s partner passed away due to a heart attack. He inherited the firm and later founded another company, which he built with experienced colleagues, all representing municipal clients. Mike founded Guevara Law to continue serving municipalities when his partners shifted their focus to other legal specialties.
Transitioning from a partner to the sole owner of a firm was a pivotal moment for Mike. “One of the biggest challenges was learning how to bring harmony to a group of people with diverse skill sets and different goals. All I knew was nothing is impossible as long as everyone is committed. Now, as I look back, I’m proud of what Guevara Law has evolved into,” Mike shares.
As a dedicated husband, loving father, and accomplished lawyer, Mike stands as an influential figure in Texan communities. His vast experience in the legal industry provided him with the knowledge and skills to represent his clients with due diligence, hard work, and honesty. Moreover, his dedication to improving the people’s lives has driven him to persevere.
Mike expresses, “If I’m tasked to rank my life roles, I would say I’m a child of God first and foremost. Then the rest follows—I’m a husband, a father, and, lastly, an attorney. This is the hierarchy because I regard everyone as someone who bears His image, allowing me to treat them fairly. This value has guided how I move forward in life and has served as Guevara Law’s cornerstone.”
