Aging Forward Calls on Volunteers and Donors to Support Wider Outreach to Communities in Need

by / ⠀News / November 4, 2024

Aging Forward, a nonprofit organization dedicated to supporting older adults in living well, is seeking assistance from kind-hearted donors and volunteers to expand its outreach. Founded in 1974 with a vision to uplift aging American adults, the organization has touched millions of lives over the years. Aging Forward has cultivated a legacy rooted in empowerment. With its educational programs, volunteering caregiving services, and social initiatives, older adults can age with dignity, taking pride in this new chapter of their lives.

For over five decades, Aging Forward has brought new meaning to the phenomenon of getting older, sparking national conversations about this stage of life. The organization works tirelessly to reframe aging into an empowering experience where older adults feel in control. When that isn’t possible, Aging Forward’s services become a powerful way for them to regain balance in their lives.

Whether they’re interested in history, current affairs, literature, or culture, older adults can find a structured learning class that piques their interest. Aging Forward also has book clubs, painting groups, sporting collectives, and poetry seminars where participants can tap into their creativity, make friends, and find community. The organization’s programs are just as varied as they are effective. Across Aging Forward’s network of 55 dedicated affiliate organizations, each one functions independently. This allows one to provide tailored services aligned with their community’s interests.

Aging Forward is continuously expanding its catalog of classes, volunteer opportunities, and other initiatives to ensure all community members can find something of interest. The organization has achieved this level of comprehensive support by partnering with local leaders across various industries, encouraging a collaborative and inclusive community environment where older adults can thrive.

While Aging Forward has made a tremendous impact on 2.5 million older adults, the organization has each a sliver of its ultimate goal: to empower every aging American with the tools they need to stay active, fulfilled, and connected. The organization is seeking support from generous donors, investors, and other community partners to expand its charitable footprint across the country. With enough support, Aging Forward aims to take its affiliate program to the next level. The organization currently serves 170,000 older adults and hopes to reach 340,000 or more.

Sarah Cheney, Innovator and Executive Director highlights the organization’s growth efforts and the ethos behind it: “Aging Forward’s underlying goal is to rewrite the narrative around aging, inspiring older adults to feel empowered and optimistic about this time of their lives. To make that impact possible, our organization is working to open affiliate programs in every locality across America, connecting every older adult with life-changing resources. Aging is inevitable, but with Aging Forward it doesn’t have to be a negative experience.”

As the number of American adults over 65 will soon outnumber children, Aging Forward serves a vital function in modern society. Besides providing comprehensive programs under the pillars of education, health and wellness, volunteering, and more, the organization is a catalyst for community in a demographic that often experiences loneliness and isolation.

Individuals supporting Aging Forward are doing more than caring for older adults. They’re making a future-proof investment in infrastructure that equips this group to take on new challenges, develop their skills, and feel the benefits of community engagement.
