BioAro Emphasizes Importance of Preventive Medicine and Biological Age with Precision Age Longevity Clinic

by / ⠀Healthcare / October 17, 2024

While people are living longer than ever, chronic diseases such as heart disease, cancer, and diabetes, are also on the rise due to lifestyle factors such as physical inactivity, unhealthy diet, stress, and alcohol or tobacco intake. These chronic diseases result in people having a shorter healthspan and a longer sickspan, therefore living more of their lives affected by various health conditions.

In recent years, interest in longevity among the medical community and the general public has grown. Longevity science isn’t just purely concerned with living longer. Instead, it seeks to address the various challenges associated with aging, allowing people to live more of their lives in a healthy and capable state – both physically and mentally. Another important issue in longevity is the difference between chronological age, or the time since a person was born, and biological age, which is determined by various biomarkers of the person’s bodily state.

In response to the increasing interest in longevity and extending people’s Healthspan, Canadian biotechnology company BioAro is launching a global virtual longevity clinic powered by its Precision Age and MultiOmics technology. Beginning in Spring 2024, the virtual clinic will allow more people worldwide to access its services, which will follow patients longitudinally, rather than the snapshot model employed by the conventional healthcare systems.

Precision Age’s unique AI software helps people discover their biological age and understand its role in enhancing overall well-being by providing insights into various aspects of aging. These include functional, hormonal, genomic, cognitive, epigenetic, fitness, and other factors – a many-pronged approach known as multiomics.

In order to assess the patient’s condition, medical imaging, such as Stress and Strain Echocardiograms, Ultrasounds, MRI and Cardiac CT scans, Biometric Data from IoT devices and wearables, 24-hour ABPM, Cardiac Monitoring, Sleep Study, Fitness and Cognitive Assessments, and a blood/stool sample will be sent to BioAro’s lab, and these will be analyzed in multiple dimensions using its proprietary multiomics assessment. Once the data has been analyzed, BioAro will have a baseline of the patient’s personal health status and which areas of their body are aging faster. From there, the clinic will be able to provide tailor-made recommendations to address these issues and help slow down or even reverse the aging.

These recommendations include regular consultations with physicians, dieticians, kinesiologists, psychologists, and other experts. BioAro’s digital platform will allow patients to interact with the experts, access various services, and view and understand their biometric and other medical data. The platform will be available in multiple global languages, starting in English, and expanding to Spanish, French, Arabic, Hindi, and more at later stages.

Once a plan has been implemented, BioAro will follow the patient longitudinally, contacting them at regular intervals to determine their condition and make any changes to the plan, if needed. It is a two-way process, where patients will regularly provide their health data, while BioAro provides feedback, informing them of their condition and instructing them on how to improve their biological age. Each patient will also work with a personal longevity coach who will give guidance on what’s best for them.

According to BioAro Founder and CEO, Dr. Anmol Kapoor, signing up for the longevity clinic is not just a one-time assessment. Rather, it’s a long-term, possibly lifelong, commitment to assess and monitor their health, as well as take action to live and age gracefully – with a longer HealthSpan and a shorter sickspan.

Dr. Anmol Kapoor

Dr. Kapoor says that the inspiration behind the longevity clinic came from his many years of practice as a cardiologist, and his passion to help people live longer. However, the current paradigm of the medical system focuses on the treatment or management of medical conditions, rather than preventing them. By the time Dr. Kapoor and other doctors would be in contact with a patient, they would already have a blockage in their arteries or some other cardiovascular condition that would reduce their lifespan. He believes that this is because the system mostly focuses on anatomical and random snapshots of a patient’s health, instead of longitudinal monitoring on an individual. The baseline work-up is often incomplete and gives false assurances to the patients. BioAro’s multidimensional assessment provides the most comprehensive assessment and insights that will empower patients globally.

“Patients would often ask me why they have premature heart disease or other conditions. The question was always why, and I could never give a definitive answer. I tell them it could be genetics or could be environmental, or other known risk factors but people are always looking for a specific answer,” Dr. Kapoor says. “Conventional medicine has its limitations, with its stop-gap approach and disease-based management. I believe that medicine has to change. We have to adopt a more preventative approach. This is where BioAro’s multiomics capabilities come in. Through its Precision Age and Multi-Omics technologies such as PamOmic software and BioEMR, it can help detect various health predictors that allow us to more accurately determine a person’s condition, allowing them and health providers to take action and maintain their health, even before they get sick.”
