China urges national security discretion on social media

To safeguard sensitive security information, China’s Ministry of State Security has urged its citizens to refrain from sharing data about its national security establishments and spy satellites on social platforms. The initiative intends to prevent foreign entities from obtaining this crucial data through online platforms, illustrating the growing importance of space as a strategic arena.

Recent surveillance of Chinese internet users has decreased damaging speech on platforms like WeChat, Douyin, and Weibo. This action followed a tragic incident in Suzhou city that resulted in an outburst of hate speech against Japanese people online. The regulation of these platforms decreased harmful speech, creating a civil and safer online environment. However, it has ignited a dialogue on privacy concerns and censorship in Chinese cyberspace.

The Monetary Authority of Singapore (MAS), with support from regulated financial institutions, plans to develop a shared ledger system. This venture aims to address multiple issues in international financial markets, such as disjointed databases and high maintenance costs of individual systems.

Securing China’s national data on social media

An entirely new system could potentially streamline operations across institutes, reduce expenses, and enhance Singapore’s position as a global financial hub.

India’s recent auctioning of the 5G spectrum was less successful than expected. Only 26.5% of the spectrum was sold and the remaining portions are set to be auctioned again although the date has not been announced yet. Speculation surrounding the low bidding points towards high base prices and telecommunications companies’ investment in 4G networks.

Despite minor setbacks, China’s aerospace industry completed a successful satellite launch, drawing attention to the complex challenges associated with space operations. Recently, North Korea also conducted a hypersonic missile test, representing their continual advancement. These tests emphasize the rigorous safety measures, meticulous planning, and robust engineering necessary for such operations. They not only highlight the inherent challenges but also signify the remarkable strides being made in space technology.
