Doug Emhoff is the husband of Vice President Kamala Harris and could become the first gentleman if she is elected president. Cole, 29, works as a film assistant and producer at Plan B Entertainment in Los Angeles.
The production company, co-founded by Brad Pitt, has produced several Academy Award-winning films and popular Netflix hits. Cole attended Colorado College and graduated with a degree in psychology in 2017. He was 20 years old when his father married Kamala Harris in 2014.

Cole and his sister, Ella, coined the term “Momala” as an affectionate alternative to “stepmom” for their stepmother. In 2023, Kamala Harris officiated Cole’s wedding to Greenley Littlejohn.

Harris has expressed sensitivity towards becoming a parental figure in Cole and Ella’s lives, given her own experience as a child of divorce. She wanted to ensure a stable presence rather than a temporary one that might disappoint them. Harris has praised Cole’s mother, Kerstin Emhoff, as an incredible parent and mentioned their strong friendship, joking about their unusually functional modern family.
Cole, named after jazz musician John Coltrane, plays an important role in supporting his father and stepmother during the Democratic National Convention.
