AOL co-founder and head of the Case Foundation, Steve Case, talked on MSNBC about how America needs to get back to entrepreneurship to survive and compete. Entrepreneurship is the reason America has leading companies that employee 10s of thousands of people and we need support and encourage these companies.
An interesting point is how most high growth companies are in the service/manufacturing sectors. To often we see young business owners think that success is an article on Techcrunch talking about their million dollars in funding trying to be the next Google or Facebook. In reality there is a lot more opportunity in what many might call “boring” industries where your company may not get tons of press or be tweeted about everyday. Silicon Valley is a small blip on the screen of the overall picture of high growth companies even though they are the ones that make the news every night.
Steve Case is also on the presidents job council and is the chair for Startupamericapartnership.org.
