Vice President Kamala Harris and her vetting team are interviewing finalists as she nears a decision on her vice-presidential pick. The decision is expected by early next week. Sources familiar with the process say Harris’ team has already met privately with Pennsylvania Governor Josh Shapiro and Senator Mark Kelly of Arizona.
Harris plans to hold further discussions with her leading candidates before making her final choice. Democratic campaign aides have cautioned against reading too deeply into any specific meeting Harris or her team is conducting.
The Harris VP nom is quite desirable. Expectations are pretty low, and if she loses, you're setting yourself up as the frontrunner in 2028 in a race with no obvious frontrunner, in an open seat race after a likely highly unpopular Trump 2nd term.

They also downplayed the significance of the location for Harris’ first scheduled event with her yet-to-be-announced running mate on Tuesday in Philadelphia.

The deadline aims to virtually confirm the party’s presidential and vice-presidential nominees ahead of the Democratic National Convention later this month. Harris and her running mate are scheduled to visit Philadelphia on August 6. Additional stops are planned next week in key states including Wisconsin, Michigan, North Carolina, Georgia, Arizona, and Nevada.
The swift pace of Harris’ VP selection comes with just 97 days until Election Day.
