Hoy’s Hardware shop, a pillar of Sweet Home downtown since 1939, is set to celebrate its notable 85-year anniversary next June. Surviving since the Great Depression, their planned community celebration includes sales promotions, DIY workshops, and an exhibition of the store’s history throughout the years.
Greg Mahler, the city councilor and ex-mayor, currently owns the exemplary hardware store. Despite his numerous city responsibilities, Greg continues his father’s legacy after his retirement by maintaining the store’s commitment to the community and customer service.
Greg and his driven wife, Terry, run the store with an emphasis on community and unmatched customer service. Likewise, the couple is leading in planning the upcoming celebration of the store’s milestone.
Ivan Hoy initially founded the store; they later sold it to John Mahler in 1971. Over the years, the store has changed hands and locations, but the name Hoy’s Hardware remains.
Commemorating Hoy’s Hardware’s illustrious 85 years
John Mahler waved the flag of community service, a standard set by Hoy. They also maintained the store’s reputation and rapport while offering quality goods and services.
Several renovations have occurred over the years, along with improvements to adapt to the ever-changing market and customer needs. Yet, the original spirit of offering top-standard hardware essentials with warm-hearted service has retained its position in the store’s ethos.
Greg Mahler continues aspiringly on the path his father set, serving the community even in unexpected times, like opening the store on Thanksgiving to alleviate a customer’s plumbing issue. The store’s prominent dedication and service have earned it numerous recognitions and awards.
The store, having grown and modernized significantly, occupies a considerable 22,000 square feet area today. Marking a key point in the store’s timeline, it partnered with ACE Hardware franchise in 2012. Still, memorabilia from its rich history adorn the store honoring its past while it continues to cater to future generations.
