The Indian Ministry of External Affairs has summoned the interim deputy chief of mission, Gloria Berbena, expressing its displeasure over her comments about the arrest of Delhi’s Chief Minister, Arvind Kejriwal. The Ministry made it clear that India’s affairs are under their jurisdiction and any foreign intervention is seen as unacceptable.
This move reflected the government’s assertiveness in handling foreign diplomacy, and it expects respect for its sovereignty and non-interference in its internal affairs from other countries. The Ministry further stated that it is crucial to respect the sovereignty and internal matters of other democratic nations as breaking these principles could set a negative precedent. It encouraged countries to constructively engage in diplomatic dialogues to resolve issues to achieve long-term peace and progress.
The Ministry confidently defended India’s independent judicial system, dismissing any doubts about its impartiality and speed in delivering justice. It emphasized that undermining the judiciary, deeply integrated into the country’s democratic process, is strongly discouraged. The system’s capability to settle disputes and deliver justice promptly was also highlighted.
Following the arrest of Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal on grounds of alleged involvement in a controversial, inactive excise policy, his party, the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), has strongly opposed the corruption allegations.

The supporters of AAP contend that the arrest is politically motivated and attack on his service to the people.
As tensions escalate over foreign nations commenting on India’s internal affairs, the German envoy was similarly summoned to clarify their stance. The Indian government expressed disapproval of the German foreign office’s perspective on these legal issues, seeing it as undue interference.
The charges against the Chief Minister and his party include corruption and money laundering related to the inactive excise policy. Investigations have unravelled suspected illegal transactions, with several AAP members implicated in these alleged crimes.
