Jon Stewart has strongly criticized President Joe Biden, comparing the “deceit” surrounding Biden’s health to the dishonesty often associated with the Trump White House. In the latest episode of “The Weekly Show with Jon Stewart,” Stewart accused the Democratic Party of protecting Biden and stifling discussions about his health problems. Stewart was joined by former Obama staffers Tommy Vietor and Jon Favreau, who have also called for Biden to step down on their podcast, “Pod Save America.” During the show, Stewart emphasized the importance of having an honest conversation about Biden’s ability to govern.
“If we are taking an honest look at our best chance to defend ourselves against a perceived threat,” Stewart said. “I think we are selling ourselves short. We need to have a productive conversation, even if Biden were to acknowledge where he stands in his life and capabilities.
This debate surrounding Biden’s capacity came after Biden suggested that only divine intervention would make him consider stepping aside during an interview on ABC News.
Stewart calls for Biden health transparency
“If the Lord Almighty came down and said, ‘Joe, get out of the race,’ I’d get out of the race. The Lord Almighty’s not coming down,” Biden told George Stephanopoulos.
Stewart highlighted the public’s frustration with the Democratic Party’s handling of Biden’s health issues, stating, “Nothing that’s been done inspires any confidence other than the fatalism of, ‘It is what it is, and this is what we’re stuck with.’ That’s a problem.
Stewart also expressed anger toward the Democratic Party’s failure to prepare the public for Vice President Kamala Harris potentially taking over, describing the situation as a missed opportunity to address threats and vulnerabilities. “What do I do with my anger at a Democratic Party that has honestly put us in this rock and a hard place position? That wasn’t honest over this past year about what was happening internally at the White House,” Stewart said.
The criticism comes amid increasing concerns about Biden’s ability to serve four more years effectively and the broader implications for the Democratic Party.
