Why should you win the Under30CEO March Madness Entrepreneur Mashup?

I can’t speak to the difficulties other companies face, but we are managing multiple moving parts in multiple entrenched industries facing down some of the largest companies in the world. We have to deal with physical manufacturing, the back end technology that supports our product, the data that demonstrates our advertising and the design work that comes with advertising. We’re disrupting an industry (toilet paper) that hasn’t changed in decades, we’re trying to bring down multi-million dollar supply contracts that lock out newcomers and prove to brands that our product works. We stay busy to say the least.

Who are your co-founders and what are they like?

I founded this company with my brother Bryan last year while I was a student at the University of Michigan. Currently, Brian is studying at Duke University and handles some of the PR and marketing work. He was also recently named Entrepreneur Magazine’s College Entrepreneur of the Year.

Tell us about your company!

Star Toilet Paper uses bathroom tissue as a new media platform. This means that we can print advertisements on bathroom tissue as well as QR codes that allow businesses and advertisers to offer downloadable content to bathroom-goers with smart phones. The money we bring in from this activity allows us to cover the cost of producing the physical product and give it away for free. This saves large public venues like stadiums, universities and theaters tens of thousands of dollars.

Who do you pick to win the NCAA tournament?

Michigan!

If you could be one college mascot, who would you be and why?

I would be a Wolverine. It is ferocious, yet at the same time carries itself with an air of mystery. This combination of traits enables it to pounce on its unsuspecting prey and demonstrate to all the other animals that the wolverine is a creature that is not to be taken lightly.
