Two vulnerable House Democrats, Representatives Jared Golden of Maine and Marie Gluesenkamp Perez of Washington, expressed their concerns about President Joe Biden’s chances in the upcoming 2024 presidential election against former President Donald J. Trump. Golden shared his thoughts candidly, stating, “I’ve assumed Mr. Trump would win for months now.
While I don’t plan to vote for him, Donald Trump is going to win. And I’m OK with that.”

When asked whether the president should step aside, Gluesenkamp Perez responded, “The truth, I think, is that Biden will lose to Trump. I know it’s difficult, but I think the damage has been done.”
Despite their outlook, both representatives emphasized the importance of respecting the choice of Democratic primary voters.
“A core tenet of democracy is that you accept the results of an election,” Gluesenkamp Perez noted. “Biden is the nominee.”
The perspectives of Golden and Gluesenkamp Perez, who are among the most vulnerable incumbents in Congress this election cycle, add to the growing anxiety among Democrats about their chances in the upcoming election. Their concerns highlight a broader worry that President Biden could become a critical liability for the Democratic Party in November.
