Natural gas has become a frontrunner for companies searching for sources of cleaner energy. Mansfield Power and Gas (MPG) is leading the charge for a cleaner future by introducing innovative approaches to address the challenges posed by other renewable energy sources

Renewables have been widely accepted as a solution to environmental concerns. However, the reality is much more complex. For example, solar power and wind energy often require extensive mining for rare minerals and their manufacture often uses harmful plastics like epoxy resin. Illustrating this, wind turbine blades in Sweetwater, Texas resulted in a health disaster with environmental repercussions after being discarded improperly due to the blades’ toxic components. While there exists no perfectly clean energy source, natural gas is a compelling alternative amongst the challenges of a modern sustainable world.

Natural gas is a cleaner fossil fuel that emits significantly lower levels of harmful pollutants as compared to wood, coal, or oil. “Natural gas produces about half as much carbon dioxide (CO2) as coal, 30% less than oil, and 15% less than wood for the same amount of energy,” states Mansfield Power & Gas COO and President Tammy Norman.

As the primary component of natural gas is methane, it burns much more efficiently, producing more higher energy content, than other fuels. Moreover, natural gas emits minimal levels of mercury, sulfur, and particulate matter which only further enhances its environmental credentials.

“The scalability and reliability of our natural gas infrastructure makes it a dependable backbone for America’s energy needs,” adds Norman.

Its versatility, affordability, and availability make natural gas an exceptional source of fuel for transportation and heating, and the resource is a key feedstock for fertilizers, petrochemicals, and power generation. Amidst the increasing supply chain uncertainties and geopolitical tensions of today, natural gas has become a reliable and stable source of energy for America to grow with.

“North America’s robust natural gas reserves provide a solid foundation for energy independence and strengthens our geopolitical stance,” says Ed Yound, MPG Vice President of Commercial Operations.

Natural gas plays a pivotal role in energy security and economic growth across the world, with more than 692 trillion cubic feet of proven reserves in the USA alone. Its extensive liquified natural gas (LNG) terminals allow the country to export over 12 billion cubic feet daily. And, as energy demands increase around the world, the nation plans to double its export capacity over the next decade.

In the tech industry, natural gas has emerged as a reliable source of energy that’s capable of meeting the growing energy demands of AI. Other clean energy sources like solar and wind have shown to be incapable of sustaining the rapid growth in electricity consumption, with the country’s data centers alone projected to consume 8% of the national energy supply by 2030. Their use as primary energy sources could lead to the United States falling behind the AI race. Natural gas provides a consistent and abundant energy supply, which could complement intermittent renewables to support the infrastructure required for technological processes.

MPG and other natural gas producers and marketers are actively advancing national sustainability projects through products like carbon capture, hydrogen, and renewable natural gas (RNG). Carbon capture technologies capture the carbon dioxide emissions of natural gas combustion before they contribute to global warming by entering the atmosphere. RNG, which is derived from organic waste from landfills and agriculture, offers a solution that not only reduces methane emissions but supports circular economy principles as well.

MPG will continue to have its finger on the pulse of emerging technologies as it navigates a quickly evolving energy landscape. The company advocates for sensible energy policies that support infrastructure development – critical to the transition to sustainable energy.  “We must recognize the importance of balancing environmental goals with practical energy solutions. Natural gas offers a realistic pathway to cleaner energy without compromising reliability or economic viability,” emphasizes Tammy Norman, “Natural gas provides a realistic pathway to cleaner energy without compromising reliability or economic viability.”

Located in a volatile energy landscape, Mansfield Power & Gas is recognized as the USA’s trusted advisor for those looking to achieve optimal sustainability. “We’re not just selling natural gas; we’re building relationships with both producers and consumers that result in sustainable practices across the supply chain,” concludes Norman. “Our focus remains on delivering reliable, efficient, and environmentally responsible energy solutions that serve our customers and shape the future of energy supply and distribution.”
