Rising Tech: Open Data and How New York is Embracing it

by / ⠀Startup Advice / March 27, 2012

Data, data, data. It’s all the rage in the tech world. Every investor is looking for the next big company who can find ways to harness all of the information out there and turn it into something useful. So why would cities be any different? New York City has embraced the idea of data and made hundreds of its public data sets available for everyone to see and use through NYC Open Data.

Did you know you could see the electric consumption by zip code in NYC or all of the 311 service requests?

What about a map of all the restaurant health ratings throughout the city?

You can view more ways the data is being put to use through the NYC Open Data blog.

All of these things and many more are available because the city has opened up all of its public data sets. Anyone can access these and turn them into whatever they can think up.

This is just another way NYC is taking steps forward in becoming a leader in the tech space.
