New York City tech is a big topic these days. The numbers show that NYC is creeping up on Silicon Valley in terms of venture funding dollars however the one big difference is the tech talent in each location. While NYC is becoming a hub for startups and tech companies its well known that we are still far behind the valley in terms of having access to the best tech talent.
It looks like local Universities are making strides to change that:
We can see that all of these local schools have seen steady increases in computer engineering majors over the past four years. This is happening along with the recent announcements of the new $2 billion Applied Sciences Campuses backed by Cornell. NYC has also seen a growth in startup incubators and city promoted competitions like NYC BigApps.
