Paycom

People in the professional world today, particularly younger generations, want to work for an organization with values that align with their own. A positive work culture and a commitment to corporate social responsibility are key characteristics that distinguish companies in a competitive market.

In 2024, Paycom, a leading provider of comprehensive, cloud-based human capital management software, received several awards from organizations, including Comparably, an employee review and salary platform, Forbes, Newsweek, and Oklahoma Magazine. These prestigious accolades highlight Paycom’s commitment to excellence and leadership in the industry, and Paycom continues to make its mark in attracting talent.

Why Chad Richison is One of the Best CEOs

A successful, visionary company starts at the top. This year, Chad Richison, Paycom founder, CEO, and chairman, was ranked number 9 in Comparably’s list of Best CEOs. This list was determined by employee sentiment.

Since founding Paycom in 1998, Richison has revolutionized the HR and payroll industries by solving inefficiencies with technology. The software automates aspects of critical HR functions such as payroll, time-off management, and more, simplifying businesses and the lives of their workforce.

Richison’s leadership has earned Paycom praise for its cutting-edge solutions, strong work culture, and focus on diversity. Innovations such as Beti®–an industry-first solution that finds payroll errors and guides employees to fix them before payroll submission–and GONE®–a tool enabling organizations to automate the time-off approval process fully–have made Paycom a leader in HR tech by improving efficiency and cutting costs.

Richison also creates a supportive workplace by offering chances to give back to the community. In 2023, Paycom donated over $2.3 million to nonprofits. His focus on technology and employee well-being has made Paycom a top organization in HR tech.

Comparably Awards

Paycom topped this year’s Best Companies for Compensation rankings and Best Company Culture as the No. 1 large company in both categories. These awards are based on sentiment feedback from current staff who anonymously rated their employers on Comparably’s website during 12 months.

The criteria defining Best Companies for Compensation were overall satisfaction with the compensation package (salary, raises, bonuses, stock/equity, and benefits). Paycom offers competitive compensation and generous benefits, including:

  • $1-per-pay-period individual health insurance
  • 401(k) with matching
  • paid family leave
  • company-provided $50,000 basic life insurance and pet insurance.

One Paycom employee told Comparably, “The benefits package is robust and offers many resources. The benefits and pay are the best I’ve experienced in my career so far.”

The platform determined the Best Company Culture based on 16 core culture metrics within compensation, career growth, leadership, and work environment categories.

A Paycom team member from the Operations department spoke highly of the culture in a Comparably review, writing, “From teammates to managers, supervisors and even the company as a whole, Paycom offers a positive and supportive environment where upward mobility and professional growth is accessible to anyone who wants it and is willing to put in the effort to get it.”

Additional Accolades

In 2024, Paycom received additional comparable accolades, including Best Work-Life Balance, Best Perks & Benefits, Best Company Happiness, Best Company for Career Growth, Best Company Leadership, Best Company Outlook, and Best Sales Team.

“Awards like these are especially impactful to Paycom because the recognition is based solely on feedback from our current employees,” Richison said.

Newsweek also named it one of America’s Greatest Workplaces for Diversity for the second consecutive year.

This process involved an analysis of companies with more than 1,000 workers interviewing HR professionals, reviewing publicly available data, and conducting an anonymous online survey.

Paycom provides the tools and resources to reach their highest potential. One of the most successful initiatives is employee resource groups (ERGs), which help individuals from diverse backgrounds engage, connect, and find support in the workplace.

Tiffany McGowen, senior executive vice president of human resources and talent acquisition, shared, “At Paycom, we’re transforming workplace culture through a bold focus on belonging. When people feel seen, heard, and respected, their potential is limitless — and so is the impact they can make.”

Local Recognition

Paycom was included in Oklahoma Magazine’s 2024 Great Companies to Work For feature as a company founded in Oklahoma. These companies live their mission, build positive work cultures, support staff’s charitable efforts, promote work-life balance, reward innovation, and aim to create a better world for future generations.

The magazine highlighted Paycom for its:

Innovative Technology: Randy Peck, Paycom’s COO, explained why Paycom stands out among tech companies. “With the rise of automation across industries, our products – which have incorporated automation since the beginning – are that much more transformational,” said Peck to Oklahoma Magazine. “For instance, GONE automates decision-making based on guidelines employers set. That approved time-off submission seamlessly flows to other HR functions like payroll, scheduling, and accruals, which are part of the Paycom system.” GONE received the 2024 Top HR Product by Human Resource Executive.

Giving Generously: Peck mentioned the employee giving program and the dollar-for-dollar match initiative. “[These programs] offer employees a chance each month to opt into contributing to a wide range of nonprofits that help with hunger, literacy, veterans, and mental health, to name a few causes. Paycom then matches the contribution.”

Developing people: Peck shared why the company is a great workplace. “We offer opportunities that help people expand their skills, ideas, and capabilities, keeping them engaged and our product and solutions top-notch.
