One woman who wears many hats, and founded the forward-thinking concierge service for kids Hall Pass Learning Solutions, Aviva Moore, has remained a beacon of inspiration. A career educator with a passion for transformative learning, Aviva’s journey is a testament to the power of perseverance, compassion, and the unwavering belief in the potential of every child.
This career educator’s educational odyssey began with a very profound desire to bring change. Although she had two daughter young daughters, her inquisitive mind led her to opt for a Master’s degree in Secondary education and certifications in various subjects, including English and history. Whether it’s teaching in classrooms or tutoring for high school, working in an administrative setting, or initiating schools, Aviva has experienced every aspect.
“I walked into a school, and I could feel that every school had its own breath, its own culture, its own feeling,” she recalls. This innate curiosity led her to traverse through many educational settings, from low socioeconomic urban schools to institutions catering to students with learning differences.
But one pivotal moment in this inquisitive person’s journey changed the trajectory. Aviva was pursuing her doctorate from the Johns Hopkins University School of Education after nearly a decade of teaching. Through this doctoral program, she gained a deeper understanding of the systemic issues plaguing education, from resource allocation disparities to generational challenges. “I was mainly curious about understanding the family participation to boost children’s online K-12 education.” She was drawn toward the marginalized population; the ones who were not privileged enough to receive the same education as the conventional public school would.
Research states that reading competency by the end of third grade is a national priority and advocates for more learning opportunities for low-income children. With these studies and witnessing first-hand the pressing issues within the education landscape, Aviva moved her attention to these very challenges.
This career educator’s beliefs have always been that there is a clear difference between education and learning. Her philosophy is clear—efficient learning requires a human element, advocating for the same in institutions across the board. According to her, institutes must recognize that these students require a human aspect; they are not simply seats that must be filled.
Aviva had embarked on this virtual classroom setting way before the pandemic hit the world, and COVID-19 just proved her research work during her doctoral research. These findings showed that the connection with humans, or in this case educators, is crucial especially when it comes to online education. This belief forms the foundation of Hall Pass Learning Solutions, the educational venture Aviva Moore founded in 2020.
In addition to her academic endeavors, Aviva has demonstrated tenacity and resolve in the face of hardship throughout her personal path. This visionary’s experiences negotiating her children’s special educational demands and battling her own health issues have strengthened her support for individualized, student-centered education. “My kids have also pursued non-traditional educational paths,” she says, adding, “Students must be empowered and encouraged to take charge of their education, excel at it, and become the best versions of themselves.”
Today, through Hall Pass Learning Solutions, this career educator endures student-centered education, individualized for each child to progress. Her mission and vision towards this is evidently shown by her dedication to creating advocacy within students, personalized tutoring, and her consultancy services.
