Social Security payments skipped on September 18

The Social Security Administration (SSA) will not issue retirement checks on September 18 to all United States citizens. This date is designated for specific beneficiaries who meet certain requirements. Retirees who do not meet these conditions will not receive their Social Security payment on this date, though they may receive it on another day in September.

Several groups will not receive the September 18, 2024 payment. These include:

Individuals who have been receiving Social Security checks since before May 1997. Individuals who started receiving Social Security payments after May 1997 and have birthdays between the 1st and 10th of the month.

Individuals who started receiving Social Security payments after May 1997 and have birthdays between the 21st and 31st of the month.

September Social Security payout schedule

To receive the September 18th payment, beneficiaries must satisfy two criteria: they must have applied for Social Security benefits after May 1997, and their birthday must fall between the 11th and 20th of any month.

September 3rd: Social Security payment for retirees who started receiving benefits before May 1997. September 11th: Social Security payment for retirees who started receiving benefits after May 1997 and have birthdays between the 1st and 10th of the month. September 18th: Social Security payment for retirees who started receiving benefits after May 1997 and have birthdays between the 11th and 20th of the month.

September 25th: Social Security payment for retirees who started receiving benefits after May 1997 and have birthdays between the 21st and 31st of the month. By referring to this calendar, beneficiaries can determine the exact day they will receive their Social Security check. If a payment is not received on September 18th, it could be scheduled for one of the other designated days in the month.
