Social Security releases 2026 RSDI payment dates

by / ⠀News / April 14, 2025

The Social Security Administration (SSA) has officially released the 2026 Retirement, Survivors, and Disability Insurance (RSDI) payment dates. For those receiving these benefits, staying informed about when your payments will arrive is essential. Navigating the payment schedule can seem daunting, but we’ve simplified it in a straightforward format.

Here’s what you need to know:

Payments are based on your birth date. If you were born on the 1st to the 10th, you will be paid on the second Wednesday of each month. If you were born on the 11th to the 20th, you will be paid on the third Wednesday.

If you were born between the 21st and 31st, you will be paid on the fourth Wednesday. For example, in January 2026, payments will be made on January 14 for birthdays between the 1st and 10th, January 21 for birthdays between the 11th and 20th, and January 28 for birthdays between the 21st and 31st. Supplemental Security Income (SSI) follows a separate schedule and is usually paid on the first of each month.

If the 1st falls on a weekend or holiday, the payment is made on the previous business day. RSDI refers to three types of benefits: retirement benefits for individuals who have worked and paid into Social Security, typically starting at age 62; survivor benefits paid to family members of deceased workers; and disability insurance benefits for individuals with qualifying disabilities who cannot work. As of 2024, more than 66 million Americans receive monthly Social Security benefits, which is expected to grow by 2026.

Knowing your payment dates

Payments follow a predictable schedule based on the recipient’s birth date. This system helps reduce administrative backlog and makes it easier for beneficiaries to predict when they’ll receive payments.

While delays are rare, they can happen due to banking holidays, direct deposit errors, or incorrect personal information. If you don’t get paid on time, wait three business days past your expected payment date, contact your bank to ensure the payment wasn’t delayed on their end, call SSA at 1-800-772-1213 or visit your local SSA office, and make sure your direct deposit details are accurate and up-to-date on your My Social Security account. To manage your RSDI payments effectively, set reminders for your monthly deposit based on your birth date, use online banking to track payments in real-time, create a monthly budget based on fixed income, and sign up for My Social Security to securely track benefit notices, 1099 forms, and personal details.

The Cost-of-Living Adjustment (COLA) for 2026 will impact the benefit amount. COLA is typically announced each October. If you move to a new address, update your information through your My Social Security account or call SSA.

Keeping your address current ensures you receive critical notices and tax documents. For the full official calendar, download the PDF from the SSA website. Knowing your 2026 Social Security RSDI payment dates empowers you to take control of your financial future.

Stay updated to ensure your money arrives when expected, and enjoy peace of mind through careful planning.
