Tata Steel, Hindalco Industries, Power Grid Corporation of India, Tech Mahindra, and Adani Enterprises led the Nifty gainers today. SBI Life Insurance Company, Hindustan Unilever, Grasim Industries, Ultratech Cement, and Shriram Finance were the top losers. The Sensex lost 14.57 points, or 0.02%, to settle at 84,928.61.
The Nifty gained 1.35 points, or 0.01%, to close at 25,939.05. It fluctuated between a high of 26,011.55 and a low of 25,886.85. The Nifty Midcap 50 outperformed, closing up by 0.41%.
The Nifty Small Cap 100 lagged, ending down by 108.85 points, or 0.56%, at 19,548.90. The Bank Nifty closed at 54,105.80, with an intraday high of 54,247.70 and a low of 53,904.65. NMDC, Hindustan Petroleum Corporation, Steel Authority of India, Bharat Heavy Electricals, and Escorts Kubota were the top gainers in the Nifty MidCap 50.
Page Industries, Bandhan Bank, Max Healthcare Institute, P I Industries, and Max Financial Services were the top losers. In the Nifty Small Cap 100, National Aluminium Company, Firstsource Solutions, NLC India, KEC International, and Hindustan Copper were the top gainers.
Tata Steel, Hindalco lead gains
Amber Enterprises India, HFCL, Honasa Consumer, Cyient, and Finolex Cables were the top losers. Other notable gainers included Schneider Electric Infrastructure, K P R Mill, Sapphire Foods India, National Aluminium Company, and Firstsource Solutions. Significant losers were SBFC Finance, Concord Biotech, Amber Enterprises India, Suven Pharmaceuticals, and PB Fintech.
The market sentiment remains mixed as investors weigh the potential benefits of external stimuli against domestic profit booking pressures. Metal stocks surged on China’s stimulus plans, which could improve demand outlook. However, gains were curtailed by profit-taking in recent outperformers in the financial and technology sectors.
At close, the Sensex was down 14.57 points or 0.02 percent at 84,914.04, and the Nifty was up 1.40 points or 0.01 percent at 25,940.40. The metal index rose by 3 percent, the oil & gas index was up by 0.6 percent, and the power index added 1.4 percent. PSU Banks, FMCG, and Telecom sectors saw declines of 0.5-1 percent.
The Indian rupee ended 12 paise lower at 83.67 per dollar on Tuesday against Monday’s close of 83.55. Manba Finance’s IPO was subscribed at 59.57 times.
