President Donald Trump held a rally in St. Cloud, Minnesota on Saturday, where he focused much of his attention on mocking and criticizing President Joe Biden, despite Biden no longer being his opponent in the 2024 presidential race. Trump entertained the enthusiastic crowd with comical impressions of Biden’s golf game, cognitive function, and ability to perform at events.
Trump also turned his attention to Vice President Kamala Harris, whom he labeled as a “radical left lunatic.” He criticized her record, particularly on immigration, and accused her of being a “Marxist district attorney” who destroyed San Francisco.
Trump targets Biden and Harris
Trump claimed that Harris would do the same to the country if elected president.
The former president’s running mate, Senator J.D. Vance of Ohio, also targeted Harris in his speech, calling her “wacky,” “out of touch,” and “a card-carrying member of the lunatic fringe.” The Trump campaign conflated Biden’s and Harris’ records in a statement, asserting that “Biden’s record is Kamala’s record.”
The Harris campaign responded to Trump’s rally by calling him “a bitter, unhinged, 78-year-old convicted felon.” They questioned whether Trump remembered who his current opponent is and stated that he has made his goals clear: “to drag us backward, undermine our democracy, and enact his Project 2025 agenda to rip away our freedoms.”
Recent polling conducted after Biden’s exit from the race shows a tight contest between Trump and Harris, with 48% of likely voters preferring Trump and 47% choosing Harris, within the poll’s margin of error. The rally in St. Cloud drew thousands of supporters, indicating the Trump campaign’s confidence in its prospects across the Midwest.
Minnesota Governor Tim Walz dismissed the event’s impact, predicting that Trump would lose the state again in the upcoming election.
