Warren Buffett, the billionaire investor and CEO of Berkshire Hathaway, is set to reveal his latest trading activities this week. Wall Street is paying close attention to Buffett’s investment decisions, as they often provide valuable insights into market trends. Some of Buffett’s recent moves are already making headlines.

In the December-ended quarter, Buffett and his team purchased nearly $297 million worth of shares in Sirius XM Holdings, a satellite-radio operator. Buffett is known for his preference for businesses with sustainable competitive advantages, and Sirius XM’s position as the sole satellite-radio operator grants it strong pricing power and a stable revenue stream. Occidental Petroleum is another favored pick for Buffett, who bought over $409 million worth of its shares in December.

Berkshire Hathaway has acquired over 264 million shares of Occidental since the beginning of 2022, suggesting Buffett’s confidence in the elevated price of crude oil.

Buffett’s team also bought nearly $90 million worth of VeriSign stock in the fourth quarter.

VeriSign, which operates as an internet domain-name registry service, has been a continuous holding for Berkshire since 2012. Its role as the premier registrar for .com and .net domains provides substantial pricing power and a high operating margin. On the selling front, Bank of America has been one of Buffett’s most aggressively sold stocks over the past eight quarters.

Since July 17, over 266 million shares, worth more than $10 billion, have been divested. This selling could be partially attributed to tax-advantaged strategies and the challenges faced by the bank amid the Federal Reserve’s rate-easing cycle. As Buffett’s full trading activities come to light, the financial world eagerly awaits to see his next moves.
